THE QUEENSLAND TIMES - April 28, 1892

For some years past there has been in Ipswich a committee, or local branch, of the Aboriginal Protection Society, and good work has been done amongst the blacks who took up their abode in this district. The Rev. E. Fuller has, at regular intervals, held service with them, but it was felt that the good which might be accomplished was somewhat minimised by the want of land on which the aborigines could make a permanent home. Accordingly some of our philanthropic townspeople determined to do what they could to meet this drawback, and the Revs. P. Robertson and E. Fuller, and Mr. W.H. Foote interviewed the Hon. A.S. Cowley, Minister for Lands, and requested that a reserve at Purga should be set apart for use as an aboriginal mission station.
